A post‐congress visit is planned to the Malacca River Rehabilitation Project, one of the most successful river rehabilitation efforts in Malaysia undertaken by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Malaysia. This river was an important trade route in the 15th century and has lost its importance due to the polluted water quality. River rehabilitation projects have improved the condition and the Malacca River has emerged as one of the main tourist attractions in the city and was awarded UNESCO Heritage City status in 2008. Special tours may be organized upon pre‐request from delegates.
